I took this last spring when my youngest child was doing a life cycles unit that included raising some chickens. This photo is one of the chickens surveying the school grounds.

Answer via the child: The ancestor of the chicken, that was really, really, close to being a chicken laid the egg that became the first chicken. Riddle solved

Yes, It was a great project. They had several types of chickens that they watch develop from eggs. When they were older, like the chicken pictured, they went to local farms.
I used to have two baby chics and raised them till the died. Love them. Such an adorable picture
