The surprise I got last night when I went to fix dinner was… no power! The Mayans are right, the apocalypse is on! The ironic part of that is this week I spent a lot of time in the comment section of this post by rarasaur (it’s a great blog) trying to decide what I would wear to the apocalypse. However, having now lived through 20 hours of no power, overnight, it was cold! I have decided I will wear layers to the apocalypse.
I was most thankful to see this sight this morning at the end of our street:
We survived our mini-apocolypse by lighting a fire in the fireplace and putting a thin foam like padding over the entrances to our living room:
It was quite cosy. We even brought in Bubbles. That would be the Beta Fish than lives with us. They don’t particularly like the cold, so we have to keep an eye on his water temperature:
We survived our apocalypse, we even thought of a few more items to put in the survival kits we keep, so great! I would also like to say that my choice of clothing, “layers”, was awesome. I rounded off my fashionable outfit by having a cold, that just kind of made the look.
Cheers!
hope you are warm again now

I was hooked with your post: Surprise! No power. I thought of posting a similar topic, but I live on an island in Nicaragua and we lose our electricity daily, so it’s no surprise to me anymore. I’m just glad we don’t have to worry about staying warm. Nice post. I enjoyed it. Glad to see your power restored.

Thanks for your kind comments! With temperatures just below freezing, we were very happy to have the power restored.

Sometimes an outage gives us time to become cozier with our surroundings; a nice surprise.
But it is nice to see the power company repair the outage too 🙂

Yes, sitting by the fireplace was nice, but the temps here are below freezing, so I was glad to have everything up and running again!

I can’t believe I missed this! 🙂 It’s a great post! I love the way the world works sometimes– a few days after a big conversation about survival wear, and then poof– you have to deal with a real life situation. I’m glad it was a mild one, and that you made it through! Here’s wishing you a warm, cozy season!

Thanks, I’m glad you liked it. It is funny the way things work out sometimes. I was very grateful to have the power back on and it was a reminder of all the things I have that I just don’t really ever think about, like heat!
Cheers!

Bubbles is beautiful! I must have a look round your blog to see if you have any more photos. Fish like this are so hard to keep, we had some tropical fish for a while, but they often fight with each other & one of our angel fish suddenly disappeared and I am sure the guppies ate her!

I’ll make it easy for you 🙂 the only other photo of Bubbles is here:https://marantophotography.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/introducing-bubbles/
Bubbles is a single, so we don’t have trouble with fish not getting along. We do have to be careful to keep him warm enough though.
Thanks for your comment!

Bubbles is stunning, fish are so hard to photograph. I’m sure I had one like Bubbles, they are called Siamese Fighting Fish over here. I think one of my Angel fish ate him. Fish aren’t very friendly to each other!!

Yes, they are very hard to photograph. I’ve heard Beta fish referred to as Japanese Fighting Fish as well.

Yes, and I’m pretty sure we were told just to get one of them. The clue was in the name! 🙂

The fact that they are kept individually at the store was a hint as well 🙂
