When I went on a hike I had the theme of pathways on my mind. I took this hike at Castlewood State Park in Missouri. It is a nice day use area, but if you are planning a visit, I would recommend you bring bug spray. This hike was about 3 miles and featured quite a bit of elevation considering that it was in Missouri. Here is part of the path; it looked like several paths in a lot of spots:
If you did not look closely, you could lose the trail with markers like these:
Parts of the are were not very friendly looking:
And there was this little guy, making his own path:
Cheers!
I’ve only been out to Castlewood one time. It’s a long way for me to ride to take a hike. I do remember a lot of hills overlooking the Meramec. You are right that parts do not look very friendly.

It is a nice area, I had been there before, but had been meaning to check it out. I guess I was just surprised when we got to a huge staircase!

I do love the theme of paths…I would suggest that the rest of the world would describe your park as relatively flat, but I have not gotten out enough this year and for me just the 3 miles would have been a lot, even without a good still hill.

I guess the issue was that I had read it was going to be flat and then there were a lot of stairs. I am fine with that, I just think it is helpful if you know what you are getting into!

Yes, it is nice that it splits up the way it does too, there are a lot of bikers that use the path, so it just gives everyone some options and a way to stay out of each other’s way.
