These photos were taken in a park near Virginia Tech. We were in the Blacksburg area for a few days. Blacksburg is a neat town, but the surrounding natural area is really beautiful. I have chosen these photos to go with the theme, flow, which is what is featured this week at Where’s My backpack?:
This first photo is perhaps not what you would normally think of as flow, but that is what the lines in the wood reminded me of.
Here are some more standard images of flow:
For this hike I chose to take along my Canon Powershot instead of my 50D. This was just a logistical decision. We were doing quite a bit of walking to the waterfalls with children, towels, and lunch. Sometimes, just having a small camera makes more sense. I do have to say though, I wouldn’t mind doing the hike again with the larger camera and a tripod.
Cheers!
Yes, everytime I leave the big boy home…I always regret it. Great photos of the wood flow…

Thanks, and I know what you are saying, it is sometimes hard to decide which camera to take. That is especially true on family outings which aren’t supposed to just be about me and my photography…

What’s the name of the park? My friend and her husband are working at VT now and I visited them last year. I didn’t know there is a hike leading to waterfall otherwise I might try it.

Here is a link to the park: http://www.gilescounty.org/cascades.html You will need a car to get to the starting point as it isn’t exactly in Blacksburg. It is worth the drive though.

I love the top picture! It instantly made me think of lava. Or a sauce caramelising. It’s quite a viscous flow, isn’t it?

Yes, I agree lava was the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

I agree with you; the wood grain around the knot on the log reminds me of ripples in the current of a shallow stream.

Which was interesting to me, because we were so close to the waterfall, I saw that same pattern repeated in the water.
