Right, that post title is worth a laugh!
I guess the first question would be which camera debate I am even talking about. In this case, I would be referring to the point and shoot vs. DSLR debate. In this case the point and shoot wins, literally:
This photo, which I took with my Canon Powershot ELPH, won an honorable mention at my camera club nature competition last week. I had considered attempting to get the shot with my Canon 50D, but it actually would not fit in this space to get a photo, so I switched to my point and shoot and got this photo.
This photo has been cropped. The idea behind the nature category at my photo club is to leave the editing to a minimum and tell a nature story. This photo is part of a story that unfolded in this nest this past spring. Other images from the story are here.
So, there you have it, the camera debate settled, point and shoot is better. Well, in this case anyway! Thoughts, comments? feel free to leave them below.
Cheers!
wow.. what a shot.. thats amazing.. I guess whatever camera you have in your hand at the right time is the perfect one hey??

Fantastic capture… I’m more inclined towards “its not the camera but the “eye” behind the lens…. !

Actually, that’s a great question. The reason I knew to go and take the picture was that the adult bird had just flown off the nest with the shell. They do that to cut down on the smell of the new baby, that could attract predators. Thanks 🙂

Oh, how interesting. I had no idea the adults did that. Amazing blue on the eggs. And you captured the newness and vulnerability of the newly hatched chick.

Yes, I thought it was really interesting as well and makes a lot of sense too. Thanks!

I agree, while the point and shoot wins this round, I’m not giving up my Canon 50D any time soon 🙂

Thank you, I do think sometimes folks overlook point and shoot cameras. You can get really great shots with them and in this case I couldn’t get the shot with my DSLR.

I totally agree and yes, what to do it you can’t get the big cameras in small spaces. 😀

Beautiful shot! And I subscribe to the view that whatever camera you have in your hand is the right one…..but, of course it does depend very much on what you want to do with your images as to size etc, do you prefer to shoot RAW etc which will govern your preference for a particular camera in the general run of things.

You are right and as with many things in photography, it does come down to personal preference.
