Sometimes you forget to be a tourist in your own town. Then maybe you get an unexpected reminder. For me the reminder was in the form of birthday cakes. Specifically the Cakeway to the West, a celebration of the 250th birthday of St. Louis Missouri. There are 250 of these 4ft. tall cakes scattered throughout the St. Louis region. Here are snapshots of a few of them:
Cahokia Mounds, which is in Illinois.
Shakespeare Festival St. Louis
I have a bunch more to see obviously if I want to see all 250 of them! It is a lot of fun to run into these cakes around town. These photos I have taken with my point and shoot or iPhone. In Photoshop I did a levels adjustment on a few of them and then sharpened them a bit. Have you ever played the tourist in your own town?
Cheers!
That’s cute! I especially like the book cake 😀 lol

I just like how each of them is specific to the site where they are placed. It’s fun to go and look at the different artist’s interpretations.

These are fantastic. Like going on a treasure hunt to find them. Certainly this summer we plan to do a lot of exploring in our back yard Rocky Mountains. We love traveling to wonderful destinations but know that we live in a spot people dream of traveling to as well.

If you have photography as a hobby, you have to become a tourist in your own town…I have visited places in last couple of years…which I had not in 2 decades!

When I first heard it I was a bit skeptical, but when they started showing up around town and I saw how unique they each were, I was sold 🙂

It’s true. When I lived in San Diego and Philadelphia, I often forgot to take advantage of the tourist attractions, thinking I had time. The cakes are wonderful 🙂
I just spent a weekend with Shakespeare here in Virginia. Henry IV, Part I is one of three plays I saw. I love Shakespeare.

This was actually the 2 play Henry IV condensed into one play. It was an interesting adaptation.
