I found out this week that this photo won an honorable mention in a photo contest that I entered it in:
I titled this one, Siblings, it was taken last spring as part of a series of images I took of a the nest that was just outside our kitchen window. This particular image was taken with my point and shoot camera. I then cropped it and sharpened it in Photoshop. To be honest, I did minimal post editing with this photo because I thought that the picture told the story without anything added to it.
I was pleased to have won with this photo, it seems like quite an achievement to me considering the quality of competition that my camera club offers. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Cheers!
Congrats. It is a nice photo

That is an amazing shot. No, no additions necessary. I wonder where mamma bird was when you took this picture!! Congratulations on placing in the contest!

This was the nest outside my kitchen window, so I was tracking when they would come and go from the nest. I just took advantage of a few minutes when both adult birds were gone. It was interesting, but this year usually around 7:30am each day they would be gone for a short time.

Often photography is about so much more than taking a picture or about composition, etc. this time, timing is of the essence. Great view for those of us who don’t have your actual view. Thank you.

Unfortunately, these little ones did not make it. I wrote a post that summed up this year’s nest activity here:http://wp.me/p2owKx-CQ

Congratulations on the honorable mention. Well deserved, and you used your point and shoot really well 🙂 Perfect fit for this week’s theme. Little creatures successfully coming into this world and opening their eyes just a bit. It looks so cozy there and they look so at home. I hope the birds have grown up big and strong and have come back for a bit of a visit 🙂

Thank you, I was really pleased with the way this photograph turned out. It is also a situation where my dslr would not have fit in this space to get the photo. I’m sorry to say these little ones did not make it. Here is a link to the post I wrote about their development:http://wp.me/p2owKx-CQ

Ah, I remember that post. Pity not all of them made it, it is sad. But you captured their presence really well with a point-and-shot. Keep up the good work with this camera 🙂

That’s a great capture, Amy. I remembered your earlier post but forgot the siblings had a premature absence from the nest. Congratulations on the recognition!

Thank you, it was a sad day in this house. I understand that that is how the food chain works, but it was still a bit sad to see it in action.

yeah, I love when that happens – and while I am iffy about awards and all that “placing” – because as we both know it is so subjective – but two of my favorite awards are honorable mention and people’s choice…

I agree, I go back and forth about awards. Part of the issue being the subjectivity factor. I also worry that I will make my photos “fit” so that they get awards instead of them speaking to my vision of what I see when creating my own art. That being said, I will completely admit to being excited when this one placed.

A well-deserved feat and a proof once again that it is not about the equipment but about the person behind the camera. I like the fact that you kept editing to the minimum. I used to have a phase when I liked to overedit my photos and now I hate them 😀 Congratulations, PJB!

Certainly having nice equipment can help, but it isn’t everything 🙂
