One of the challenges I face when I am running is to keep running. I’m not always successful, but in this case it means that I got this photo:
I’ll admit if I had seen this spider in my home, I’d have probably squealed like a girl and ran away before dealing with it. On a run however, when I am just passing the web and spider by, I find it beautiful. On this particular morning there were a lot of spiders out working. This one I stopped for because I thought the light in the web was just about perfect. Here is the original shot:
In the edited version I really focused on the warmth that was in the original. I used Lightroom for my editing. One of the first things I did was increase the temperature slider. I liked the effect that had on the spider’s legs and on the sun rays. I’ve also used a graduated filter to bring a bit of interest to the sky.
The fun thing about this photo was that I took it with my iPhone, I was happy with the result. What do you think? Do you try to ignore spiders when you are out and about? Do you prefer the original or the edited version? Feel free to leave a comment below. I’ve added this photo to my Picfair portfolio and to the Daily Post Challenge.
Cheers!
Not my thing…but great capture!

Definitely, spiders are not my “thing”, but your photos are great… so I can accept them that way 🙂

That’s a cool shot of the spider, Amy! I haven’t been able to capture web like you did.

Thanks Amy, a bit of it was just the timing with the light.

Never squeal like a girl – sez I a girl. Love the spider, they are beautiful creatures, their webs so intricately designed with such single-minded purpose. I do get it’s all they do – pretty much like me peeling potatoes for dinner, but still a gust of wind and it all starts again. Love hunting spiders too, great to watch as they jump across a room!

I’m still going to squeal first 🙂

The light is lovely and you’ve caught it well. Accentuating the warmth is what I would have done as well.

Thanks so much. I did try a “cooler” edited version, but it just didn’t appeal to me as much. It was a good exercise though, I think there is a good deal of value in experimentation.

I love the droplet and the light. So nice Amy.
and my husband had a little to do list out with some notes – and one of them was to take down the spider web out back- the one we kept walking into – ha! they can keep their webs in a lot of spots – but not right there, ya know?

To think they do it all without a pattern book or laser guidance. I only hate them when I run into the web before I see it 😉

Agreed, I hate to destroy all their hard work, plus getting all the little threads off can take awhile.

Spiders have never bothered me except I do flash back to years ago when a coworker got bit and it ate the flesh on part of her leg. When I see a web like this, I stop and admire it because I can never understand how such a small creature can create such a beautiful work of art. Add a few rain drops, and you have a web of diamonds. 🙂

Yeah, I definitely prefer to appreciate them at a bit of a distance. It is amazing how beautiful their creations are.
