Here being this photo:
You knew this was going to be a photo journey right? It all started when I was editing these flowers:
for another post and I ended up with this black and white version:
I liked the black and white version, but I was also still drawn to the color version. I had a few thoughts in mind. What I ended up liking was drawing attention to the center of the flower which looks like a heart, and warming up the photo a bit. I had a few other thoughts along the way and those photos ended up looking like this:
and this:
I’ll be honest, I don’t like either of those. I added them in here just to illustrate that sometimes a final version is a bit different that the versions that proceed it. At least that’s the way it happens in my world, true story.
What does your editing path look like? are you more a straight and narrow type, or do you tend to wander all over the place? I’m a bit in the middle of the two. Feel free to leave a comment below. What do you think of the warmed up color version? I’ve added it to my Picfair portfolio, the black and white version is there too. The others, well they aren’t going anywhere.
Cheers!
Hi Amy- I like the colored version you came up with – and editing for me depends on my mood at the time – depends on how much time I have – and the subject – ha!

Thanks, I did end up liking this color version. I do agree that a part of editing does have to do with my mood at the time.

I think you ended up with the best edit:) I find sometimes I just have to leave a photo and come back to it after a day or so, to see it all with ‘new’ eyes.

I agree, sometimes when I leave things and come back to them I see something completely different.

B&W great for detail, but I like the original best!☺️

Thanks, it is interesting to me how certain edits can bring out different features of a photo. Thank you for commenting.

Mostly, I know how what I’m aiming for and go to it. I don’t wander much.

I just find it interesting how some people seem to have that type of focus and others don’t and yet either type of approach (and all those in between) can yield great art and expression.

A little bit of all of the above. Sometimes I think I know what I want, what the image is supposed to look like and then at some point along the journey something shifts and a whole new experience emerges. One that feels richer, fuller and captures what I was looking for even if I wasn’t able to access ‘it’ before. Other times the image and it’s story are crystal clear and the ‘no touching or editing’ voice is loudly audible!
Thank you for sharing your journey. Each one of your images tells me a different story. A different moment in time for these flowers and what that moment stirs in me.

I agree, sometimes I know exactly where I am headed and sometimes I just think I do.

My editing depends on what I’m doing. Mostly it’s just easy tweaking in Lightroom.

That’s a good point, I have a lot of photographs that I just have a basic set of edits that I do to them.

Thank you for your kind comment. I use this blog as a way of keeping track of what sorts of editing things I have tried, what has worked and what hasn’t. For me it has been a useful way to keep track of my work.
