Sometimes I can’t help but wondering, Mother Nature what are you thinking? because this seems a bit twisted:

These photos were taken in the greenhouse that is part of the gardens at the Down House which was the home of Charles Darwin. If you go for a visit make sure to pick up an audio guide, it is fascinating. As for the photos, they were taken with my iPhone. I had brought along my Canon 50D with a wide angle lens, so while that was great for overall shots of the site and garden, I left the detail work to my iPhone. Shots like the ones above are something that I think my iPhone handles well.
I did edit these shots in Lightroom so the originals are below for sake of comparison:
I’ve cropped both, as well as done overall adjustments to the highlights and vibrancy. I also sharpened both.
So do you like the edits? Do you find these plants a bit creepy? I do honestly. Feel free to leave a comment below.

Love the edits, Amy. You know how to use your iPhone well and it does capture detail. I find that when the lighting’s great, a lot of detail can come out through photos taken with your phone. I don’t find the plants creepy…maybe prickly and I don’t want to touch them 🙂

Yes, it was a really neat place to visit. He really was a thinker and he experimented with a lot of things. His garden, for example, was pretty much a laboratory of observation.

Amy I do like the edits very much. Really crisp and vibrant images. I don’t think i would want to get my hand to close to these creepy characters I must admit.

Hi Amy, I just used my iPhone to take some photos of that little reclaimed-garden area on the end of the street after taking some with my SLR. It gave me a different screen size, which was helpful!

Yes, that is the type of shot that an iPhone will sometimes handle really well Theresa. The different screen size can be very helpful. While I’m not ready to chuck my larger camera, there are a lot of things the camera in modern phones handles really well.

The iPhone tends to boost color in my opinion, and in this case, I thought it made for an interesting photo.

yes – I agree and I noted that you said your iPhone did better than your fine camera – and when i read that I was reminded as to how nice it is to have such good cameras in this smart phones.
