I walk past this display at the grocery store all the time. All the gossip I could possibly need to know prominently on display:
Is any of it true? Is it simpler in black and white?:
I took this photo for a variety of reasons, but one was that the Luminar software I am using has a filter called “Orton Effect” that its description says will make a photo “sharp and blurry at the same time”. That’s a bit hard to wrap my brain around, but I thought that it might work as an interesting filter on this black and white version of the tabloid. I’ll be honest, I like what it did here. I’ve also cropped the image a bit and added a vignette. What do you think of the filter and the edit? Feel free to comment below.
Cheers!
This photo was inspired by Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge, Tongues and Tales and also by a conversation with Yvette on her blog about tabloids.
I like your play on the word tales, 😀 😀 Clever 😀

I love that Orton effect in Luminar and have played a bit with it. It works very well in this monochrome version, Amy. 😊

I’m thinking that the Orton effect is going to be a good one for black and white but perhaps it will work nicely on jewel-tones as well? I’ll have to give it a try.

nice play on black and white
and this was a fun follow up to the blog chat – really enjoyed this culture share (similar but different)

I thought you might find it interesting, I did. I often think more of the similarities between our cultures than the differences, but in this case, it does show a bit of both.

Definitely more gossip than one needs. I don’t have Luminar software and the thus the filter “Orton Effect”, but the effect looks at little like some layer blending I do in Photoshop. It seems to me that the blurriness is due to black tones defusing into the brighter tones, while thee actually contours are still sharp. I like it. 🙂

Thank you very much, I do like this filter, I think it has a lot of potential applications. As for the gossip, the thing I find amusing is that a fair amount of the time I am not even sure who they are talking about!
