New to my blog for this year will be a series of posts called “What I am Working On”. These post will include images that are in the process of being edited and notes on the editing process.
This photo is a window shot on a recent flight from Berlin:
The first step in my process was actually to update my Luminar software to Luminar 3 that includes a library feature. I am happy to say that Luminar had no problem linking to my library that I keep on an external drive.
For editing, I was using this photo, shot on my iPhone, because it has GPS data in it. I’m disappointed that the GPS data does not show in Luminar. Research on-line suggests that it may be a feature added this year. The work around for now is to open the file in the Inspector on my Mac, and the information shows there. This is important to me since I often refer to iPhone photos for the GPS information when I am looking at photos that I took several months ago and want an exact location.
Luminar does seem to save edits automatically. I also verified that the catalog, which holds the data for the edits, is saving to the folder I set up for it.
Next steps for another work session: 1) Sort out how to backup my catalog to a second, separate drive. 2) Figure out how to export a file that has edits without the edits.
Posts like these will sometimes be added into photo challenges but often will not. Readers of this blog know that I welcome thoughts and suggestions in the comment section below.
Cheers and Happy 2019!
Beautiful photo, you captured the sky colors so well. The plane wing in the foreground was a great idea. Happy New Year to youπ

Updating software is something that always gets on my nerves lol. I always prefer to manually update software.

Yes, I agree with you. I just have this deep fear of anything that’s “new and improved”.

‘New and improved’ might not always be what we like. Some photo editing apps on my phone slow down so much after an upgrade.

I agree, also apps on my phone kind of drive me nuts, so I just opt to have a few and leave it at that.

I am struggling a lot with Luminar 3 stability issues. Actually I can not make it work at all: will stick to Luminar 2018 for a while. Good luck with your transition process…

So, this install went surprisingly smoothly for me, I was worried about it. When Luminar 3 was released a few weeks ago, I didn’t have time to install it, so this version is actually the first update that they released a few weeks later. I’m not shocked that you had stability issues considering that the update was to fix something like 20+ crash issues for Mac and 50+ on the Windows version. That’s super frustrating though, that it isn’t working for you!

Thanks, I’m glad you find it interesting. For me, learning new software can seem a bit overwhelming, so writing about it helps me process it and gives me a reference for when I know I know how to do something but can’t quite remember…

Amy, I love that you are going in this direction with your blog posts. “What I am working on” reminds me of my experiment in the past month with blogging about the writing process and including an excerpt of my work. We are in parallel! π Helps reassure me about the direction I’m trying as well. Love it!

Yes, with having new editing software, I thought this series might really help me keep track of what I am doing and also serve as a reference. Also I can an insert a “great minds think alike” sort of comment here right? π

Absolutely, I was thinking the same thing! Serendipity! I think it’s quite good to bring into your blog what you’re doing in real life with your art. And, it helps the reader feel more connected to you and your work! Yay! π

Wonderful window shot, Amy. I enjoy using Luminar on occasion but really haven’t embraced adding it to my LR and Nik arsenal. Happy New Year!

I think photo editing is one of those things where there are a lot of products out there, so part of the issue as a photographer is just finding one that suits you.
