I traveled pretty far to get this shot:
Shot while on safari in Serengeti National Park, I could tell you some dramatic tail (see what I did there?) of how we snuck up on this guy, but it would be a lie. We drove as near as we could get while still staying on the road and then I took this photo, he didn’t even stir. When I went to edit this photo this week, I wanted to express a dream-like feel in the image. I started with a crop, but made sure to keep the little lizard in the frame. It’s a small, easy to miss detail, but I liked it. One of the edits I did was to add a LUT called Beijing to this photo. It is basically a pre-set series of edits, and it helped create this look:
LUTs are something I don’t know a whole lot about, so in the future I will be researching them a bit more. First I might take a nap though…
Your thoughts on the photo and its edit are welcome below.
Cheers!

😊. Lions seem to nap more than even humans do! You captured them beautifully

I know right? we saw so many napping, but this one had picked such a lovely looking spot in the sun, I was a bit jealous.

Oh, those little things. I see it since I tend to focus on minute details.

Yes, I’m a bit vague on it at the moment, although I have a guess based on what I am looking at on my end. I’ll be looking into it a bit more just because I feel like if I understand the concept, I can apply the tool more effectively.

I certainly don’t know anything about LUTs but I very much like the effect Amy. Love the way the lion appears as if he has his head resting lie a human would on a pillow.

Thanks very much Sue. This is an editing concept that I think when I have a better working knowledge of how it works, I’ll be able to use it more effectively.

First: loved the lizard bit, I didn’t pick that up until you mentioned it. Second, I like that the sky ended up pale blue with wispy clouds after your edit. Seeing recently the deep bright blue (Monet’s garden!), this shade seemed perfectly in tune with the lazy nap-ness of the subject. Nice! Good explanation as always!

Yes, the two images are a bit of a study in contrast, one that had super bright colors and one where I really wanted a more subdued look.

That’s a lovely capture! <Thanks for mentioning the lizard, it puts a big smile on my face. I'll have to learn more about LUTs now. 😉
