This week seemed felt more like the gentle side of Spring, lovely colors and warmer temperatures.
Welcome to this week’s installment of my daily photographic record. Posts in this series will be photos from the week before, roughly Friday through Friday. This, once a week, wrap-up post will publish on Sunday. The photos for this post will be in a gallery format, they will have all been taken on my phone. The captions on the photos will be an indication of the photo-editing software used to edit them, or simply “as shot” for those that are unedited.
Writing a weekly wrap up with a gallery is a way for me to gather my thoughts on what has caught my attention in the previous week. It will be a way of filtering through what I am thinking about photographically. I’ll also be able to come back to these posts and look at what trends emerge over time.
As with all my posts, your comments are welcome. I appreciate your interaction with my work here on this blog. It is my intention to publish in this series on Sunday. Every Sunday that is possible. Looking at my year, I already know there are some weeks where I will not be close enough to my technology to make a post possible. In an effort to keep this project pleasant for myself, I won’t be attempting catch-up posts.

Great idea on the weekly wrap up. It is a good way to reflect on the week and what you did. Love the photos. It is about spring, flowers blooming, the cows in such a lush green pasture. I like photos like that. I am still trying to find a way to organize all my photos. It is a great way to remanence on all the beauty around us.

Amy, how did you get started in photography? I don’t think I’ve asked you before. I was just thinking about how organized your mind is around cataloguing, recording your process, coming back and reviewing it for patterns through this blog, etc. So organized, and yet photography takes advantage of the immediate, the serendipitous, and other non-linear abilities that you have in such abundance as well!

I’ve always enjoyed photography but got more serious about it approximately 10 years ago when I purchased my first DSLR. Because that was a pretty serious step-up from my point and shoot, I took a few classes about that camera, about digital photography more generally, and then I took Photoshop specific classes and even a class on Design. I am definitely a list making, linear type of person. I think that comes through in my photography which tends to be more documentary than creative. The creative end of it is something that I have to work harder at than some of the technical skills.

So interesting a journey, Amy! I can see where the technical-learning side of photography would be appealing to a detail-oriented organized person like you…and that you bring your creative side to the practice is even more inspiring.
Query: I think I mentioned this retired photojournalist I recently met and how he explained telling a story in three images, like a comic strip does. Have you done any or considered a sequence of shots like that? I’d be curious to see what you might do with that idea! 🙂

Yes, I feel like that’s a pretty common assignment in photography classes. The one that springs to mind though is a series of 10 images I had to create to tell a story. My youngest was an avid rock climber at the time, so I did the “story” of her preparing for and completing a climb. It was a challenge to show all that a climb entails in just 10 images. I also did one once about a controlled burn in a local park, that was fun too.
