The challenge for this week was to use the rule of thirds. As I was working on this, it seemed to me that my use of the rule was maybe a bit subtle, so I took a screenshot with the rule of thirds grid showing on the photo:
That lower left point is where I am focusing the visual interest of the image. Here is the final edit:
I took this image just a few days ago. I was out on a walk and happened across a few WWII pillboxes, including this one on the path that went through the middle of a field. A bit of an unexpected find. The edits, done in Luminar, are mostly for clarity.
Cheers!

I always have the grid on for the rule of thirds. It can certainly help composition a lot.

It can be helpful, I tend to prefer to do it in post-process as I find in camera the grid distracting.

I guess I kind of have gotten used to using the grid on the camera display already. Then again, when you already are used to it, you can do it in your head, I guess.

Yes, if it’s useful to you to see it, I think that is a good thing to have as it is a simple but powerful tool.

I appreciate you cutting the photo in thirds Amy. It really gives a clear explanation of the concept.

Photography for me must be intuitive and not learned in schools with magic formulas
I find that the “rules” do not apply to all subjects
However, I greatly appreciate your discovery and your photography

I would agree that the rules don’t always apply, maybe “suggestions” would be a better label for them.
