Date and Location of Photo: Dec 21, 2019. The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. It was a sad visit, but I felt that it was important to pay my respects.
Thoughts on the Edit: Luminar Look, Expired L9, which is an expired film filter, chosen to give the photo a documentary feel.
April Squares, an Explanation:
When Becky announced that the April Squares theme was going to be “top”, I thought it over and then sent her a message, then pitched my idea. She was open to my theme within the theme and the result is my response to the April Squares challenge.
I move a lot and I have a move pending. I’ve lived here in England for about four years and will be heading to the United States. Exact dates to be determined, given the current world situation, details have yet to be worked out. My April Squares is a “top shots” reflection on the last four years. Each square represents some moment or place that was meaningful to me. They are in chronological order moving forward in time. I’m attempting to post every day. All photos will be edited in Luminar 3. I hope you enjoy following along, I’ve enjoyed the process of creating. Your comments and thoughts are welcome below.

It’s an interesting treatment – the filter gives the photo a historical feel, but from an artistic perspective it places the image at a bit of a remove, like it happened in the past. It also conveys a sense of desolation, aridity, which is appropriate. (Then again I tend to overthink these things.)

So, the aridity part, to be honest, I hadn’t really thought about until I was at the site, but it was palpable.

I haven’t been here, but I have visited Dachau which was a similarly sad experience.

oh wow – has it really been four years? I can recall when you mentioned the move to England was happening.
Truly nice to be blog friends for a while now –
I think of you sometimes – like one time I smiled to remember (our of the blue) a comment you made about a post I made in February 2016 – the comment was about using your stuff and not letting stuff sit.
And how my sister dressed her second son in suits and stuff – to “use” the stuff.

Yes, we have been friends for a while now, and the four years here have gone by quickly. Writing this series for the month of April was a nice exercise in processing those years for me. I guess maybe one of your nephews does appreciate me so much! making him dress up. It turns out the whole use the stuff and don’t let it sit as a way of life that has suited me pretty well.
This particular photo and place was hard. I wanted to treat it with respect and do it justice, both pay witness to the reality of what happened and remind myself that it is up to individuals to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
