I look through a fair number of blogs, most are in some way related to photography, but most photographers have other aspects of their lives. Ingrid, over at Live Laugh RV, posted about coffee cake and an eagle. I gave the coffee cake recipe a try, a photo of the result is below. The recipe is here.
Ingrid called her post the “Coffee Cake Debacle” and I could call this editing attempt a bit of a debacle as well. The photo has the Luminar Look, Food Photo Enhancer, added to it. With the look added, the edit was a mess, the little editing voice in my head going, “as if” to the original outcome. With the Clarity taken out and the Vignette tweaked, the edit was much better.
The coffee cake turned out quite nicely, I’ll be hanging on to the recipe.
The Instagram version is here:
Added to Lens-Artists Photo Challenge, At Home.
Looks so delicious! I feel like to give a try.

Wow. Looks good enough to eat! Personally, I like the banner and first photo best. The instagram shot has that light/bright area in the center that I think lacks detail. Good looking cake!

Also, as a bonus, it was very easy to make. I agree I like the full edit better than the IG version.

So glad you tried the coffee cake recipe. I find food photography VERY challenging. I actually do a tad better using my iPhone for food images. Thanks for the mention š

Yes, food photography is really tough, I think you have to put a lot of hours of practice into getting it right. I’ve not put in those hours! Thanks very much for the recipe, it turned out nicely and I will be making it again.

Yum! I follow Ingrid, too. I must have missed that post. The coffee cake looks yummy. Thank you for the reminder I need to bake cookies today – it’s a science experiment. Have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the recipe. Been baking so much banana cake, muffin, and loaf lately at home. I will try this during blueberry season. I want fresh berries. I hesitate to post any food in my blog.

Yes, I’m not really that much of a cook/baker so I don’t usually post that many food-related posts. Fresh berries would be best for this, although which berry you use, that part would be easy to switch up in my opinion.

Looks yummy Amy – how did it taste???

Really good, I tweaked it a bit for my oven’s quirks. I also used mixed berries since I didn’t have enough blueberries, the recipe easily accommodates the switching of berry types.

Ah, delicious, Amy. I think I will give it a try. I am a lousy food photographer, but you did really well. I agree with Ingrid – the phone works better for me in these cases.

Thanks very much and I think it is a nice base recipe, other fruit would work as well.

This looks very tempting, Amy. I might gice it a go, I have lots of blueberries in the freezer. I bought Luminar 4 some time ago, but apart from installing it I never got any further. Is it easy to adjust to? Do you use it a lot?

I think you will have little trouble with adjusting given that you have years of experience with other software. I find it very easy to use. Photoshop has more features but I found that I wasn’t really using them, as in my opinion, Adobe has moved a lot into the graphics end of design and creation. That’s not bad, it’s just not what I want from photo software. I do still use Bridge for tagging and cataloguing, but that can be used as a free stand alone. I actually cancelled my Adobe subscription. Luminar just works better for me. All personal preference of course and you could also use Luminar as a plug-in, I heard that it functions that way as well.

I like both versions and how fun to actually get to try out a recipe – I have some waiting on the lists to “get to” –

This one was bumped up on the try list because I happened to have all the ingredients and it seemed like a pretty simple recipe.

That makes it more doable for sure – and I have an easy chia seeed pudding recipe to share soon- and the reason we tried it was similar – we had the three ingredients right on hand (chia seeds, stevia, and almond milk) – so good
