April Squares: Top Shots, Hadrian’s Wall

ISO 800 f/13 1/1000sec 16mm

Day 7, find other responses here.

Date and Location of Photo: August 16, 2017. Hadrian’s Wall, several spots along the Wall are maintained by English Heritage

Thoughts on the Edit: Although now a square, the original file was captured with a wide-angle lens. The edit has the Luminar Look, Camden Desat, applied. I also experimented with the Orton effect filter, using it on two layers, the initial edits layer and the final edits layer. I’ve not ever tried that before and what I was specifically working on was the look of the sky.

April Squares, an Explanation:

When Becky announced that the April Squares theme was going to be “top”, I thought it over and then sent her a message, then pitched my idea. She was open to my theme within the theme and the result is my response to the April Squares challenge.

I move a lot and I have a move pending. I’ve lived here in England for about four years and will be heading to the United States. Exact dates to be determined, given the current world situation, details have yet to be worked out. My April Squares is a “top shots” reflection on the last four years. Each square represents some moment or place that was meaningful to me. They are in chronological order moving forward in time. I’m attempting to post every day. All photos will be edited in Luminar 3. I hope you enjoy following along, I’ve enjoyed the process of creating. Your comments and thoughts are welcome below.

April Squares: Top Shots, English Countryside Part 2

ISO 25 f/2.2 1/1972 sec 4.2mm

Day 6, find other responses here.

Date and Location of Photo: May 21, 2017. Wadenhoe. Notice that large cow there? Good, give it and all livestock plenty of space while walking through the countryside. There are rules concerning where and how you can walk through the countryside, it’s all about commonsense and respect. Today’s photo is a continuation of yesterday’s. If yesterday was a scene I commonly came across while walking, today’s is not.

Thoughts on the Edit: The Luminar Look applied here is Blue and White at 58%.

Day 5, find other responses here.

Date and Location of Photo: April 12, 2017. A field near Buckland Abbey. This photo is one typical of the landscape during lambing season. Walking through the countryside is something I never got tired of doing.

Thoughts on the Edit: I wanted to keep the idea of motion in the photo, so I did not do a lot of sharpening. This photo has the Luminar Look, Metro Tokyo L4 Film added. A bit ironic considering that Tokyo is halfway around the world.

April Squares: Top Shots, Ely Cathedral

ISO 250 f/2.2 1/17sec 4.2mm

Day 4, find other responses here.

Date and Location of Photo: April 1, 2017. Ely Cathedral Octagon Tower tour. Ely Cathedral is a place I’ve visited several times in my four years of living here in England. They have two separate tower tours and a floor tour. They also host a lot of events.

Thoughts on the Edit: I had a couple of versions of this before settling on the one above.  I thought a black and white might be nice, but somehow I couldn’t quite bring myself to leave the color behind.

Day 3, find other responses here.

Date and Location of Photo: October 27, 2016. The canals of Amsterdam, I recommend both walking along them and taking the boat ride. Two different perspectives that are worth your time and effort.

Thoughts on the Edit: I’ve added the Luminar Look, Autumn Colors and on a separate layer, my own vintage edit preset.

April Squares: Top Shots, Bletchley Park

ISO 160 f/8 1/200sec 4.3mm

Day 2, find other responses here.

Date and Location of Photo: October 2, 2016. Bletchley Park, a must for history nerds, it is the home of the WWII code breakers. I’m such a nerd that I’ve visited three times in my four years here.

Thoughts on the Edit: The square format was easy on this edit, it pretty much dropped right into place without too much fuss. The Luminar Look, Soft & Dreamy has been applied at 72%.

Date and Location of Photo: August 19, 2016

Thoughts on the Edit: It was hard to choose how to set the square edit within this photo which was shot on my Canon 50D. I’ve added the Luminar Look, That Glow Faded at 68%. Conwy is in Wales. This photo was from our first of three trips to Wales.
