Angles

I was puzzling over a photography assignment that was supposed to include angles.  By that I mean that it was somewhere percolating in the back of my brain.  What I was actually doing at this moment was taking long exposure photos in the dark.  Well, semi-dark, the sun was thinking about coming up.  It turns out the angle I was looking for was right in front of me:

ISO 160 50mm 0ev f/5 50.0s

Moonlight behind the tree, sunlight struggling to come up.  This is a 50 second exposure.  It turned out to be perfect for my angle assignment, so I headed back inside for a cup of tea.

Cheers!

Travel Theme: Bright

Last week’s theme at Where’s my backpack was spooky, so there were a lot of dark night photos.  It was a lot of fun, but this week’s theme is bright.  I was taking a lot of night photos this week, but as you can see, it was pretty bright out:

ISO 160 50mm 0ev f/5 21s

That would be the moon hanging over my house at 6:21am.  The moon was super bright, and there were not a lot of clouds.  This is a 21 second exposure.  You can see some stars as well.

Cheers!

One Last Night Photo

Just for fun I made this image for my night photography assignment:

ISO 160 50mm 0ev f/18 94sec

It’s a 94 second exposure with a laser pointer for the smile.

Have a happy Friday!

Cheers!

Night Photography in the Early Morning

Of the series of pictures I took for my night photography class, this one is probably pushing it in regards to when I took it.  It was taken at 6:26am, so the sun was thinking about coming up, but you could still some of the night sky:

ISO 160 50mm 0ev f/18 189sec

As you can see from the camera data, it is a really long exposure, 189 seconds.  That is Venus you can see in the sky.  I really like the way the color turned out in this photo.

A Flower for Your Monday

I have been working on night photography for my digital photography class and here is a photo from that assignment:

ISO 160 f/18 0ev 50mm

This photo has an exposure time of 105 seconds.  My camera was on a tripod and I was using my remote release shutter.  During the exposure I used a laser pointer to color in the flower.  I will also tell you that even though this was night photography, I took the photo in the very early morning, while it was still dark.

Cheers!

Travel Theme: Spooky

I could not pass up this week’s theme, spooky.  A lot of pre-Halloween fun going on over at Where’s my backpack, so I thought I would join in.  This past week in my Digital Photography class we have been working on night photography so a bunch of my posts in the near future will have that as a theme.  Here is my spooky night photo taken this past week:

ISO 160 f/18 18s 0ev 50mm

It was lurking in my front garden! This photo was taken at 6:13am using a tripod, flashlight, and laser pointer.

Cheers!

Portraits in Digital Photography Class

This photo below I took for my digital photography class where we are working on artificial lighting and portraits.

ISO 3200 f/1.8 1/400 2ev 50mm

This photo was shot outside after dark using two flash lights for light.  In order to get detail I boosted the ISO and the exposure. Not a typical portrait, but we were encouraged to experiment a bit and come up with something different.

Cheers!

Travel Theme: Couples

When I first read that “couples”was the travel theme for this week at Where’s my backpack? I was thinking that maybe I would just skip entering this week. Then I went out Friday night and got this shot, a couple of flaming hot women-literally:

ISO 3200 f/2 1/1250 2ev 50mm

These ladies are part of The Fire Technicians-St. Louis who put on a pretty good show set to music.  I got this shot at Third Degree Glass Factory that was hosting its 10th Anniversary party at their monthly open house.  If you happen to be in the area, now you have some place to go and check out.

There were people there who were taking pictures using flash but I didn’t for a few reasons.  The first was I wasn’t convinced that I was close enough for my in camera flash to make a difference.  Second, I was afraid of distracting the performers.  Third, I thought the fire light only would make a cool effect.  I did also some post editing work in Aperture.  I cropped, lightened, and sharpened the image.

Cheers!

Photography at Night

Something I don’t do a whole lot of.  I took my camera along to a carnival that was being held in my local area and I got this shot:

ISO 2000 28mm f/14 0.5s

To those of you that do night photography, check my settings, what might you have done differently?  There is a lot of light coming off the ride and it was moving pretty quickly.  The only editing I have done on this version is some cropping and straightening.

Cheers!
