Still Life in Odd Color

I took this photo as part of an assignment to create a still life image.

ISO 100 f/5.6 1/100 (-2,-1,0) 50mm

The rocks I used from a children’s game.  I used them because of their slightly odd pastel color.  I bracketed the photo and put it in Photomatix.  I wanted to really give this an odd feel.  It is different, but didn’t really turn out as I thought it would.  Maybe the background is too distracting?

For Today: It’s Black and White

At some point this year my photography club will have a competition with “Landscape: Black and White” as its theme.  I don’t do a lot of black and white images, but we were hiking and I came across these rocks that I thought would look better in B&W than color.  Here is the image I came up with:

ISO 1600 4.3mm f/2.7 1/60

I took this with a point and shoot and without and tripod.  I have done a bit of darkening and cropping. What do you think?
