There were some things I expected to see on my day at Dover Castle, literally centuries of history, fabulous view, and then one thing I did not:
Yup, a Corvette owners meet-up of some kind. Seems a bit unlikely, who thinks to storm the castle in their Corvette?
These folks apparently:
That first photo is an edited version of the original as-shot version which is the second photo. As I was editing this photo I tried a few things including adding a film filter and another version that was black and white. What I ended up liking the best though was this version where I have adjusted the saturation and luminance sliders in Lightroom. I like the subtle tones, while the luminance works nicely on the cars I think. The final photo is unedited, I took it because I just thought that the setting for this group seemed so incongruous, that I had to take a photo.
What do you think of my edits? Do you ever take photos like that last one, just because the scene seemed so improbable? Feel free to leave a comment below.
Cheers!
I love the contrast of the modern cars and the centuries old castle. Great photos😄

If I came across this I would have taken photos. The juxtaposition of the place and the cars is irresistible.

Yes, even though I wasn’t sure exactly what I was going to do with the photo, I took it anyway.

Oh I definitely am on the hunt for the unusual. That’s my favourite kind of photo. Even as a classic location I try to find something out of the ordinary. I’d say this definitely qualifies as out of the ordinary. Wonderful editing as well for the lead photo.

Thanks! This definitely qualified for out of the ordinary to me.

I like the more dramatic sky of the edited picture, and the colors of the cars in the original. Sometimes, it’s difficult to choose… 😉

I know right? There are a bunch of different ways this one could have been edited, each saying something a bit different.

Modern knights? I too love finding incongruous compositions such as this, but they rarely go beyond the limits of my digital album. Your first moody photo sets the scene for the classic view of English castles.

I agree, photos like this often don’t go further than a digital folder.

Love Your photos. Thank You. Corvette meet-up, sounds great. In Finland we have had Ferrari meet-up and I have a a post of it. Thank You for this post.

Finland doesn’t seem like a very likely place to have a Ferrari 🙂

It’s not that I didn’t believe you, it’s that it just seems like a rather one season car. I feel that way about people who have convertibles of any kind here in England, just a question of how much use you would get out of it. I have a very determined neighbor though, every chance he gets, his roof is down, so good for him 🙂

Truly bizarre—of COURSE it called for a photo! Perfect for the challenge

Yes, I had to take the photo even though I had no idea what I was going to do with it 🙂

Even as I was taking the photos, I was thinking, what am I even going to do with these? I guess I know now!

Yes, it is sitting in a place of honor on my desk right now, but I think I will treasure it for years.

You have the one copy? Is it something that could be reproduced? What would be the cost? I might like to purchase it. …. I have a book I picked up on the bookstore tour (it was a giveaway) of a photographer’s photos of ferries, and I thought of you and your African photos. It’s “Crossings,” and the Amazon URL is https://www.amazon.com/Crossings-ferries-Puget-Michael-Diehl/dp/0981881505/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1526310668&sr=1-1&keywords=crossings+michael+diehl. When I’ve looked through it, would you be open to my sending it to you? I thought it may be similar to your book, so wanted to share it with you. Drop me an email if so!
