I knew I was going to have to go outside, despite the snow and freezing rain. But before I did that this morning I set up my camera in a window by the bird feeders. Here is one of my visitors:

In order to get this shot I am using my tripod and remote shutter. That way my camera can be close to the window to eliminate glare, but I am not there scaring away the birds. I used the live view function on my camera which allowed me to see what I was going to take a photo of. In this case I have also increased my ISO because despite the light of the snow, it was a bit dark.
Once I had this shot, I edited it in Photoshop. I will show you the original at the bottom of this post, but I started my editing in Bridge and used Camera Raw to adjust the exposure and clarity. Then I opened the photo in Photoshop and did a levels adjustment and some sharpening. I also cropped the image. Here is the original:

As you can see from the snowflakes on the bird, it was actively snowing. It stopped shortly after so off I went to clear the walk. Hope you are warm wherever you are!

We have lots of sparrows too. Actually, my bird feeders were just pretty much overrun yesterday, a combination of the snow, rain, and cold I guess.

Yikes, I am assuming you you have some good outerwear so that you don’t freeze while you are riding. I would imagine it could be quite treacherous with cars attempting to navigate the snow as well.

For most of the way there’s a cycle path that’s separated from the main road, but on some parts it’s just a tiny bicycle lane on the edge of the road. The most scary part is, of course, the tiny lane when you’re practically riding in the traffic with the cars.
The fact that the snow is falling makes it even more difficult because of the lack of proper balance when riding on snow. The clothes is nothing to worry about: I’m dressed for winter. Yesterday I actually had to stop and open my jacket because I was way too warm!

I have that issue (about bike paths) here too. There are some, but then there are other places where you have to share the road and the road is quite narrow. That makes me quite nervous. I usually just am out biking for fun, so I just go at times when there is less traffic, but there are many commuters I see through my neighborhood and I am nervous for them. I guess just be careful 🙂
